Lessons
I offer one-to-one online lessons for adults and children (7+), either as individual sessions or on a regular basis.
My primary instruments are acoustic guitar, bodhrán and mandolin, with tuition also available for banjo, bouzouki, tin whistle and general music theory using a keyboard as the interface.
Lessons are taught online via Zoom, with students welcome from Ireland and abroad.

My teaching philosophy
I believe that music is a truly universal language, that is not strictly for entertainment purposes. Personally, learning how to play an instrument has helped me to improve my sense of self and my ability to regulate my mood for the better.
The achievements and connections that can be gained from playing music have been so significant in my life and the lives of many of my students, that we couldn’t imagine going through life without music as a friend, anchor and a perpetual endeavor with infinite paths to explore, for our own unique reasons.
I see my role as helping my students to explore the richness of their life-long journey in ways that allow them to be curious, to find their own individual voice, and to participate, perform and collaborate, much like many of our ancestors did before the radio came along.
In order to do that, I must help them build a good solid foundation, instill good habits from the beginning, and create the conditions to allow them to grow in this way. Above all, I want them to love what they do and see the benefits of honing their skills.
I am not a life-long teacher, nor would I want to be. I set out with the aim of imparting information that my students can absorb, to teach themselves how to think critically and become self-sufficient as soon as possible.
